Strengthens enforcement powers against unauthorized medical practice and raises penalties under The Medical Profession Act and The Regulated Health Professions Act.
- Bans practising or claiming to practise medicine, podiatric surgery, or as a physician assistant without proper registration or licence
- Lets courts issue injunctions and order people to hand over information or answer questions during investigations
- Raises fines for individuals to up to $25,000 for a first offence and $50,000 for repeat offences
- Raises fines for corporations to up to $50,000 for a first offence and $100,000 for repeat offences
- Allows officers or directors of an offending corporation to be personally found guilty and fined
- Sets a 2-year limit to start prosecutions after a violation is discovered, with a 1-year transition rule
- Also raises fines and adds similar injunction and information-order powers under The Regulated Health Professions Act
